Awards*
In accordance with MHSAA guidelines, a student-athlete may accept, for participation in athletics, a
symbolic or merchandise award that does not exceed a fair market value of twenty-five dollars
($25.00).
Permissible awards and activities include:

Banquets, luncheons, and dinners
Non-competitive trips
Spectator admission to non-Troy School District events, if accepted in kind (e.g., complimentary
tickets)
Prohibited awards include:

Cash, merchandise certificates, or any negotiable financial document
Memberships, privileges, services, athletic equipment, wearing apparel, or accessories/jewelry
exceeding the $25 limit
Additional Guidelines:

No individual, including a parent, relative, or friend, may accept an award on behalf of the
student-athlete prior to high school graduation
Awards must be based solely on participation or achievement in athletics, not tied to
performance wagers or sponsorships
Failure to Comply:
A student who violates this policy shall be declared ineligible for interscholastic athletic competition for
at least one semester from the date of the violation. If the violation occurs after the fourth Monday of a
semester, the student will be ineligible for the remainder of that semester and the entire next semester.
