INTRODUCTION
The Troy School District Athletic Handbook for Student-Athletes is designed to provide a consistent
framework of expectations, responsibilities, and guidelines for all student-athletes, regardless of the
team or school they represent. This handbook serves as a comprehensive resource that integrates the
rules and regulations of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), as adopted by the Troy
School District, along with district-specific policies governing interscholastic athletic participation.
Athletics in the Troy School District are viewed as a vital extension of the classroom—an opportunity to
further develop social-emotional learning, personal responsibility, teamwork, leadership, time
management, and athletic skill. Participation in sports complements academic achievement and fosters
habits that support lifelong success. As such, student-athletes are expected to uphold the highest
standards of conduct, character, and commitment both on and off the field of play.
This handbook operates under the umbrella of the Troy School District Student Code of Conduct.
Accordingly, any student-athlete found in violation of the Code of Conduct is also subject to the
disciplinary procedures outlined in this handbook.
The Athletic Handbook is in effect throughout the entire year, including all seasons of athletic practice
and competition. Continued eligibility for participation is a privilege that depends upon the studentathlete’s adherence to all components of this handbook.
If a student-athlete is deemed academically ineligible to participate in contests or scrimmages, they may
still be permitted to practice with the team—provided they are not under school suspension. However,
the inability to participate in competitions may impact their eligibility to receive athletic awards, as
determined by team-specific requirements established by the coach and communicated at the
beginning of each season.
Policies indicated by an asterisk (*) are those adopted by the Troy School District that also align with
MHSAA regulations.
Student-athletes are subject to all current MHSAA rules and regulations, whether or not those rules are
explicitly detailed in this handbook.
