Progressive Discipline
• Repeated or escalating behaviors will result in increased consequences
• Patterns of misconduct may elevate violations to higher levels
Restorative Practices Commitment
The Troy School District is committed to using restorative practices when appropriate to:
• Help student-athletes understand the impact of their actions
• Repair harm to individuals and team culture
• Rebuild trust and accountability
• Support long-term growth and decision-making
Restorative approaches may include guided conversations, mediation, reflection activities, or
community/team service, and are used in conjunction with—not in place of—appropriate
consequences, especially in cases involving safety, legality, or MHSAA-mandated penalties.
Authority
• Coaches may enforce team rules consistent with this framework
• The Athletic Director has final authority on athletic eligibility decisions
• School administration may impose additional disciplinary action
Eligibility During Suspension and Tryouts
• Suspension from the school day shall result in ineligibility for all after-school athletic activities,
including practices and competitions, on that day.
• Behaviors or decisions that result in suspension during a tryout period may negatively impact
team selection.
• Athletic suspensions may carry over from one sports season to the next, including into the
subsequent school year, until the full consequence has been served.
