SECTION XIV
Student-Athlete Handbook: Disciplinary Framework
Philosophy
Participation in athletics is a privilege. Student-athletes are expected to demonstrate behavior that
reflects school values, good sportsmanship, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the
community. Discipline will be progressive, educational, and restorative when appropriate, while
maintaining alignment with Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and National Federation
of State High School Associations (NFHS) standards.
The Troy School District Code of Conduct serves as the governing standard for all student behavior and
expectations and supersedes the provisions outlined in this Athletic Handbook. The Athletic Handbook is
intended to provide additional guidance, clarification, and context specific to athletic participation. In all
cases, student-athletes are expected to adhere to both the Code of Conduct and the standards set forth
within this handbook, with the Code of Conduct taking precedence in the event of any conflict.
