Mindful Art (006201)
Grades 9-12

Mindful Art combines mindfulness concepts with engaging art activities to encourage expression, self-awareness, and stress reduction.
The class will focus on exploring personal identity, learning about and practicing stress reduction and coping skills, developing
relationship skills through collaboration & community work, and fostering gratitude.
Drawing 1 (006232)
Grades 9-12

This course introduces the fundamental principles and techniques of drawing. Students will develop a strong foundation through
hands-on practice with a variety of drawing media. Emphasis is placed on exploration, creativity, and skill development as students
learn to observe and interpret the world around them. Assignments will include drawing from personal interests, portraiture, still life,
natural forms, life drawing, action drawing, and perspective studies. Constructive feedback and peer critiques play a key role in each
student’s artistic growth. Students of all experience levels are welcome—individual progress and personal artistic development are
emphasized throughout the course.
Advanced Drawing (006243)

Drawing 1 is a prerequisite for Advanced Drawing. This course builds upon the principles and techniques introduced in Drawing I,
encouraging students to refine their skills and explore new mediums. A key focus of Advanced Drawing is the use of color, as students
expand their creative range and technical ability through experimentation and practice. Students will develop personal concepts and
create artwork that reflects their individual interests and artistic voice. Regular feedback and peer critiques support artistic growth and
help students strengthen their portfolios. All students—regardless of skill level—are welcome. Individual progress and personal
development are emphasized, ensuring that each artist is challenged and supported at their own pace.
Painting 1 (006252)

This course introduces students to fundamental painting styles and techniques using a variety of water-soluble media. Participants will
explore diverse subjects and approaches, including portraiture, landscapes, still life, and design-based projects. In addition, students
will study color theory alongside the essential elements and principles of art and design.
Advanced Painting (006263)

Painting 1 is a prerequisite for Advanced Painting. This course builds upon the foundational skills developed in Painting 1, focusing
on the continued exploration of water-soluble media. Emphasis is placed on developing a more individual artistic direction while
refining painting techniques and compositional strategies. Students will deepen their understanding of the elements and principles of
art and design through a range of projects and subject matter, further honing their technical and creative abilities.
Ceramics 1 (006272)
Grades 9-12
1 semester 0.5 credit
This course introduces fundamental forming techniques, including coil, slab, and pinch construction, along with essential approaches
to glazing and firing. Students will explore a wide range of hand-building methods and gain an introduction to wheel throwing.
Emphasis is placed on understanding the complete ceramic process from forming to glazing and firing—while also developing good
studio practices, including material management.
Advanced Ceramics (006283)

Ceramics 1 is a prerequisite for Advanced Ceramics. This course offers advanced study in ceramics, emphasizing both wheelthrowing and hand-building techniques. Students will explore a range of subject matter, focusing on the development of both
sculptural and functional forms. Through the investigation of advanced construction and glazing methods, students will refine their
technical skills while cultivating a personal creative vision.
