Education
The Education program prepares students for careers in education. It provides foundational skills in classroom management, lesson
planning, child development, and instructional strategies. Students gain hands-on experience through classroom observations and
teaching practice. This program helps students explore the teaching profession and prepares them for further education in teaching and
education-related fields. To become program completers, students need to complete Careers in Education 1 and Careers in Education 2
earning a C or better.

Careers in Education 1 (Held at Athens) (107393/207393)
Grades 10-12
Full year 1.0 credit
Careers in Education 1 is designed for students interested in pursuing a career related to education or working with children. In
the course students will study early childhood development, positive guidance techniques, cultural competencies, and
instructional strategies. They will gain communication, technical, and collaboration skills needed in the workforce. Students
will observe and assist children in the Troy Athens Preschool located within Athens. Careers in Education 1 is a state approved
Career and Technical Education program. College credits are offered at Central University, Western Michigan University,
Oakland University, Macomb Community College, and Davenport University (transcript credit, no exam necessary; Careers in
Education 2 required). Students that complete both Careers in Education 1 and 2 are eligible to receive a Child Development
Associate® (CDA) credential.
Careers in Education 2 (Held at Athens) (107403/207403)
Grades 11-12
Full year 1.0 credit
Careers in Education 2 is designed for students that have completed Careers in Education 1 to gain a deeper understanding of
the field of education. In the course, students will study middle childhood and adolescent development, classroom
management, current trends in education, teaching strategies, and lesson planning. Students will observe and assist in the Troy
Athens Preschool located within Athens. Also, students will work with an elementary or middle school teacher in a classroom
setting. This will provide them with an opportunity to apply what they have learned during class. College credits are offered at
Central University, Western Michigan University, Oakland University, Macomb Community College, and Davenport
University (transcript credit, no exam necessary). Students that complete both Careers in Education 1 and 2 are eligible to
receive a Child Development Associate® (CDA) credential.
Architecture & Mechanical Drafting
TSD offers two programs of study in the field of architecture and mechanical drafting. To be considered a completer in the
Architecture program, students must complete both Architecture 1 and Architecture 2 earning a C or better in each course. To be
considered a completer in the Mechanical Drafting/Woodworking program, students only need to complete Woodworking 1 with a C
or better in both semesters. Students may opt to take Woodworking Design & Fabrication 2 to expand their skillset and knowledge.

Architectural Drawing 1 (1007072)
Grades 9-12
1 semester 0.5 credit
This course satisfies ½ credit of math related graduation requirement. This is an introductory course for students to learn the
basics of Architecture and Design. Emphasis will be placed on room designing for the sleeping area, living area, and service
area of a home. Detail drawings will be created for each room followed by drawing a basic floor plan with both exterior and
interior elevations. Students will leave the class with a basic set of drawings and a model.
